Gwendolyn Osment

Gwendolyn H. Osment, age 85, passed away June 28, 2019 in Piedmont Hospital. She was the widow of Newton P. Osment and the daughter of the late Julius C. and Edith Harrill Humphries. She was first married to the late Rev. Gary D. Smith.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 30th, 1-2p.m. in the sanctuary of Parkway Baptist Church. The funeral services will immediately follow at 2p.m. with Reverend Jay Dorsey speaking. The burial will be in Chester Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Osment  is survived by one son, Daniel “Danny” Smith (Teresa) of Chester, one step-son, Jimmy W. Osment (Glenda)of Spartanburg, three daughter-in-laws, Darlene Osment, Ann Smith, Amy Smith, three sisters, Doris H. Painter (Drayton) of Gaffney, Eleanor H. Dempsey (Charles) of Louisa, Va.,Elaine H. Dobbins (Donnie) of Gaffney; one brother, J.C. Humphries (Gail) of Gaffney; 9 grand-children and 12 great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by two sons, Gary D. Smith, Jr. and Kevin E. Smith, Sr., one sister, Jo Ann Humphries.

Mrs. Osment was retired from the City of Chester where she served as the city administrator for 23 years. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church and had been active in the Chester Baptist Association. She graduated from Gaffney High School and Robison Business College of Spartanburg. Mrs. Osment loved being with her family and especially her grand-children, tending her flowers and vegetable garden and her arts and crafts.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made in memory of Mrs. Osment to Parkway Baptist Church, PO Box 1227, Chester, SC 29706
