James C. Wagers, Sr., age 97, passed away December 12, 2017. He was the widower of Elizabeth Lee Wagers and the son of the late Carpenter H. and Katie Lewis Wagers. He is survived by two sons, James “Jim” C. Wagers, Jr. (Debra) of Blackstock and Dr. Bill Wagers (Brenda) of Camden; 5 grand-children, one sister, Esther W. Bigham of Chester. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Alice Lee. In Mr. Wagers’ last years his life was enriched by a very special friend of the Wagers’ family, Helen Roddey Adams.
Mr. Wagers was a member of Cornwell Presbyterian Church and he was a WWII combat veteran of the U. S. Navy, (Chief Petty Officer). After WWII he began his career with the SC Army National Guard and retired at the rank of Sergeant Major in 1980 as an Aviation Maintenance Supervisor at McEntire Joint National Guard Base. After his retirement from the SC Army National Guard he farmed cattle and grain in the Blackstock community of Chester County.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, 2275 India Hook Rd., Rock Hill, SC 29732.
Mr. Wagers’ graveside will be conducted by Pastor Tim Foster, 2p.m. Sunday, December 17 at Woodward Baptist Church Cemetery.
