Hattie Ava Gainey Gheen, age 91, of 520 6th Street went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, February 6, 2015. Mrs. Gheen was born in Darlington, SC to the late Fred M. and Rebecca James Gainey. She was the widow of Johnnie F. Gheen. Mrs. Gheen was retired from the Eureka Mill of Springs Industries where she worked for 42 years. She was a long time member of Saluda St. Church of God where she was a former Sunday school teacher for the Children's Class.
She is survived by one son, Jerry Gheen (Billie) of Chester; two daughters, Betty Partain of Blackstock, Linda Gheen of the home; grandchildren, Malcolm Partain and Teresa Fuller; 3 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Louella Waters, Gladys Earnest, Nancy Conley, Jeanette Gainey; brothers Laverne and James Gainey.
The visitation for Mrs. Gheen will be Sunday, 4-6p.m. at Pollard Funeral Home. The funeral will be conducted by Bishop Joe Vicars, 2p.m. Monday at Saluda Street Church of God.
The family is gathering at the home, 520 6th Street in Chester. Mrs. Gheen will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Saluda Street Church of God's van or children's church fund.
Locally-owned Pollard Funeral Home is serving the family.
