Bob Meek

John Robert "Bob" Meek, 94, formerly of Chester passed away Saturday May 31, 2014 in Rock Hill at a skilled nursing facility.

Mr. Meek was the oldest retired firefighter from the City of Gastonia Fire Department. After retiring he and his wife moved to Chester. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Sandy River Masonic Lodge 207; the York Rite in Gastonia, the Hejaz Shrine Temple, a "Hillbilly".

Mr. Meek was the son of the late Robert L. and Effie Meek and the widower of Frances Nivins Meek who passed away in January 2013. He is survived by two sons James B. Meek and his wife Rita of Gastonia and Billy Reece Meek of Bessemer City, NC; one brother, Herbert Meek of Gastonia; one sister, Frances M. Cabiness of Rock Hill; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Banks Meek; three brothers, Neal, Broadus and Boyce Meek; three sisters, Alpha Hambrick, Lillian Carnes, and Lib Braswell.

The family extends special thanks to Mr. Meek's special caregivers at Medi Home Hospice and Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill.

The visitation and funeral for Mr. Meek will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 760 Calvary Church Road, Chester, SC on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. The visitation will be from 1pm until 2pm, the funeral will be conducted by Reverend David M. Sealy at 2pm.  Mr. Meek will be laid to rest in the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to The Mission Fund of Calvary Baptist Church and mailed to the church's parsonage, 610 Calvary Church Road, Chester, SC 29706.
