Charles Alvin Johnson, age 70, of 76 Cowdray Park, Columbia, SC., passed away peacefully at his residence, Saturday October 15, 2016. Born in Union, SC he was the son of the late William W. and Ada Carter Johnson. He was a graduate of Union High School and Cecils Business College. He spent his early years in sales, after many years of employment in state government; Charles retired from the South Carolina Legislative Department. After his retirement he was employed by Shives Funeral Home in Columbia. Charles was best known for his kindness to everyone he met and his unrelenting devotion to his family. He was an avid collector of diecast models.
Surviving are two sisters, Barbara J. Black of Union and Elizabeth J. (Jim) Cooksey of Pottsville, Pa.; two brothers, Carl L. (Agnes) Carter of Union, William T. (Lucille) Johnson of Jonesville, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Reba J. Franklin; special nephew James Russell Fowler.
Charles will return to his home, 76 Cowdray Park, (Wildewood) on October 17, 2016. From 5:30 – 7:30p.m. family and friends will gather to bid farewell from this earth to a better life and where he will have no more pain.
On Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. the graveside funeral for Charles will be held at Union Memorial Gardens, 1720 Whitmire Hwy., Union SC 29379.
