Emily Chandler Gillis, age 89, passed away December 7, 2014 in Piedmont Medical Center. Mrs. Gillis was the widow of Herbert G. Gillis and the daughter of the late Dr. Asa C. and Ina Sands Chandler. She was born January 25, 1925 in Calcutta, India. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chester and a Third Order Carmelite.

Mrs. Gillis is survived by one son, Herb Gillis of Chester; one daughter, Maryanne G. "Mimi" Culpepper of Fairfax Virginia; one brother, Frank S. Chandler of Millbrae, California; grandchildren, Katharine G. Culpepper, Thomas H. Culpepper, Jr., Jonathan F. Culpepper. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Thomas H. Culpepper, Sr., one sister, Dorothy C. Hatchette.

Before her declining health, Mrs. Gillis was known for her cheerful and comforting visits to those in nursing homes. She also enjoyed painting in oils and watercolors.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Gillis will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday, December 13th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 110 West End Street, Chester, with Father Philip Gillespie officiating. Burial will be in Orlando, Florida.
