"Cooter" Roden

James Wesley "Cooter" Roden, 60, of 637 Morningside Drive passed away at his home surrounded by his family, on June 5, 2014. He was the loving husband of Cathy Wright Roden. He was born in Chester to the late Albert W. and Dorothy Stallings Roden. After completing High School in Chester, he began a career at Springs Industry and worked at the Eureka, Gayle and Katherine Plants. He was a faithful member of Chester First Church of The Nazarene where he enjoyed serving the Youth Bus Ministry. He liked fishing and watching westerns with friends and family. To those who knew him, he was very humble, compassionate, and kind. James is also survived by one daughter, Amanda Roden; three step-daughters, Christina Freeman, Sara Kahle, and Catherine Raines all of Chester; one brother Harold Gene Roden of Georgia; three sisters, Betty Dickey, Linda Gaston; sister-in-law, Shirley Nance all of Chester. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Taylor Rodgers, Emily Rodgers, Avery Freeman, Colby Freeman, Ruby Freeman, Corbin Bowers, and Shannon Kahle; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Benton Roden and Carl Edward Roden.
The visitation and memorial service for Mr. Roden will be held at Chester First Church of the Nazarene, 182 Pinckney St., Chester, SC on Saturday, June 7, 2014. The visitation will be from 10am until 11am, the memorial service will be conducted by Reverend Bayliss Adimaro at 11am.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Life Center Fund at Chester First Church of the Nazarene.
The family is gathering at the home of Cathy Roden at 637 Morningside Dr. in Chester.
