Barber, Jr.

John Crawford Barber, Jr., 79, passed away Sunday June 22, 2014 at his home. He was born in Vero Beach Florida to the late John C. and Mary Stover Crawford, Senior. Mr. Barber was a talented musician, known as the "Harmonica King", he played in various gospel and bluegrass bands. He frequently played at Blackstock Bluegrass. He was a member of Orrs Baptist Church and retired from Fluor Daniel Construction as a construction foreman. Mr. Barber served his country in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by two sons, Jeffery Barber of Chester and Jerry Barber of Norfolk, Virginia; three daughters, Jane Ellen Spotloe and her husband Chris of Chester, Jean Ann Sisk and her husband Dusty of Richburg and Kay Wessinger of Clover; the son's and daughter's mother, Shirley Price Barber of Chester; two brothers, William Barber of Goose Creek, SC and Evan Barber of Ft. Mill; and ten grandchildren. Mr. Barber was preceded in death by three sons, John C. Barber III, Joseph Alexander Barber, and Carl James Barber.
The family wants to thank Mr. Barber's care givers, son-in-law, Chris Spotloe, Jan Byars, and her staff at Hospice Care of SC. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Hospice Care of SC, 173 Columbia Street, Chester, SC 29706 or Orrs Baptist Church, 1266 Lancaster Hwy, Chester, SC 29706.
The visitation for Mr. Barber will be held at Pollard Funeral Home on Monday from 6-7:30p.m. The funeral will be conducted by Reverend Randall Runion at Orrs Baptist Church on Tuesday at 11a.m., the burial will be at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family is gathering at 1504 Peden Bridge Road in Chester.
