John Wesley Roof, age 67, husband of Shirley Ann Melton Roof, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013. Mr. Roof was born in Chester to the late John J. and Lila Varnadore Roof. He was of the Baptist faith, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a retired maintenance supervisor from Carowinds. After his retirement from Carowinds, John worked for The City of Chester.
Mr. Roof is also survived by two sons, John Scott Roof and his wife Ann Marie of Rock Hill, William Keith Roof and his wife Brenda of Charlotte; one daughter, Carla Lynn Roof Dorn and her husband Bobby of Johnston; one sister, Elaine Sealy and her husband Richard of Rock Hill; grandchildren, Kristin Demmerle, Shane McQuade, and Travis Dorn and his wife Alyssa; and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one brother, Gerald Roof.
The visitation for Mr. Roof will be Thursday, November 14th at Pollard Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be conducted by the Reverends James Sanders and Melvin Pressley at the First Freewill Baptist Church of Chester, 790 Hawthorn Road. Mr. Roof will be laid to rest at Chester Memorial Gardens.
