A memorial service is planned for Friday, June 21, beginning at 11 a.m. at Pollard Funeral Home. The Rev. Jay Dorsey will officiate.

The daughter of the late Evelyn Weaver Sexton and the stepdaughter of the late Jesse James Sexton Jr., June was born on Feb. 21, 1940. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Rena Mae Hoopaugh Weaver and Sydney Y. Weaver, with whom she was reared in the home. She was also preceded in death by several beloved uncles and aunts, among them Betty Lou Weaver Adkins, who was the same age as June and also reared in the home.

June was previously married to the late Charles Franklin Wingate with whom she shared three children.

Having retired from Springs Industries after many years of service, June was most recently a homemaker and loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed watching soap operas, playing computer games, working puzzles and going to the beach. Her true passion, however, was just being around people, friends or strangers, and sharing a good laugh. She was of the Freewill Baptist faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Lucas, and her husband, Coochie, of Chester; two sons, Mitchell Wingate and Kevin Wingate, both of Chester; two grandsons, Kevin Cole Wingate of North Myrtle Beach and Brian Lucas Jr. of Chester; four great-grandchildren, Alexis Lucas of Atlanta, Ga., and Trey, Kayla and Hunter Lucas, all of Chester; several great-nephews and a special great-niece, Adrienne Lucas of Chester.

June also leaves behind her much-loved pet, Ammo.

In honor of June's wishes, the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to a COPD charity of one's choosing.
