He answered the call to serve his country with courage and honor, serving as a combat medic in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970. For his extraordinary bravery and selfless devotion to his fellow soldiers, he was awarded the Combat Medical Badge and the Bronze Star Medal with Valor. He reenlisted in 1971, earned his nursing degree, and continued serving with distinction until his retirement in 1991, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. His military career reflected not only his dedication to his nation but also his deep commitment to caring for others.
While Ron's military accomplishments were remarkable, those who knew him best will remember the man behind the uniform. He had an infectious sense of humor, never met a stranger, and possessed a gift for making people smile. Whether sharing stories, teasing friends, or striking up conversations wherever he went, Ron left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Some of Ron's happiest moments were spent outdoors with Joann. Together they enjoyed many summers along Clear Creek in Talkeetna, Alaska, taking in God's beautiful creation while fishing and making memories that would last a lifetime. At home, he found joy in life's simple pleasures—wandering flea markets in search of hidden treasures and carrying on his lighthearted "battles" with the squirrels raiding his bird feeders and the crows eyeing his pecan trees. Those everyday moments reflected the playful spirit and appreciation for life that made Ron so special.
Above all else, Ron was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, loyal friend, proud soldier, and compassionate caregiver. His strength, kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of honor, service, and love will continue to inspire generations to come.
