Obituary

Ray Duncan

Raymond E. Duncan, age 89, of Chester, formerly of Lake Wateree and Rock Hill passed away Tuesday, June 7th.  Visitation will be Thursday, June 9th at Pollard Funeral Home 7-8:30pm and other times at the home of Jeff & Tammy Norris, 1989 Landry Lane, Rock Hill. Graveside service will be Friday, June 10th at 2:00pm  at Chester Memorial Gardens with Reverend Mike Pelham of Lake Wateree Baptist Church officiating.

Ray was a veteran who served his country in the US Navy during WWII, worked at South State Chevrolet and Lake Wateree State Park. Before moving back to Chester, he was a former Fire Chief at Dutchman Creek Fire Department and a member of Lake Wateree Baptist Church where he was very active in the start up of the church.

He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Duncan of Chester; two nieces, Tammy Norris (Jeff) of Rock Hill, Terri Brookshire (Barry) of Piedmont, two nephews, Grady Bell, Jr. (Ann) of Chester and James Starnes of Rock Hill; great nieces, Tracy Ropp (Richard) of Shelby, NC, Hollie Langley (Wayne) of Lawndale, NC, Brandi Hawkins (Doug) of Chester, Julie Norman (Scott) of Jacksonville, FL, Melissa Starnes of Richburg; great nephews, Adam Hawkins (Haley), Ben Bell, and Brady Bell, all of Chester and Jimmy Starnes of Richburg.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, George & Athea Holder Duncan; two wives, Kathleen Duncan and Anne Duncan; three children, Danny, Bobby and Tracy Duncan; one brother, Wallace Duncan; one sister Ann Henderson.

He was a kind, loving, caring giving person who never met a stranger.  The highlight of his retired life was being at the Dutchman Creek Fire Department!  Even after he moved he still visited often.  He was loved and respected by everyone he met and will be greatly missed by all!!!
