Robert Stephen Hill—"Uncle Steve" to his immediate family—was born August 7, 1951, and passed peacefully on February 6, 2026, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC. He was 74 years old.

Robert, as he was known publicly, served in the United States Navy as an MM2 (Machinist's Mate Second Class) before building a career—first at Central Trane Heating & Air in Charlotte, NC, and then working his way up to HVAC Supervisor at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC, where he eventually retired.

He was a man of dry humor and quiet generosity—the kind who contributed to church mission work, helped without fanfare, and asked nurses and techs, "Do you know Jesus?"

Steve, as he was known to family, was preceded in death by his brother Thomas "Tommy" Eugene Hill; his parents, Marion Zelma Gable Hill and Eugene Hill. He is survived by his devoted sister Donna Elane Hill, who cared for him through six years of illness; his niece Aubrey Caldwell; his great-nephews; his great-niece, her husband, and family; along with an uncle, aunts, many cousins, and his dear friend "Junior" Albert Helms, whose 40-year friendship reminded Steve that he was known and loved.

When asked if he was ready to meet the Lord, Steve made clear he was. We're not saying goodbye forever—just for a little while.

Private interment at Evergreen Cemetery provided by Pollard Funeral Home, Chester, SC, as requested by Uncle Steve.
