Shirley Melton Roof, a cherished soul whose warmth and love touched many, passed away on June 4, 2026, in Saluda, South Carolina. Born on September 19, 1947, in Chester, SC, Shirley’s life was one beautifully woven with steadfast devotion to her family and community. Shirley was a beloved wife to the late John Wesley Roof, whose memory she held close to her heart throughout her years. She was the devoted daughter of Rebecca Hedgepath Melton and William Benjamin Melton, both of whom preceded her in death, guiding her path with their enduring love. A pillar of strength and affection to those around her, Shirley is survived by her loving children: her daughter Carla Dorn and husband Bobby, and her sons John Scott Roof and wife Ann Marie, and William Keith Roof and wife Brenda. Her family blossomed further with the joy of her grandchildren—Kristin Mazzell and husband Danny, Travis Dorn and wife Madison, and Shane McQuade and wife Kaitlyn—all of whom brought light and laughter into her life. Shirley’s legacy of love extends even deeper, embraced by her six great-grandchildren who were a constant source of pride and happiness. The family warmly welcomes friends and loved ones to a visitation on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, located at 801 Columbia Rd, Edgefield, SC 29824. This gathering will provide a cherished opportunity for all to reflect on the remarkable life Shirley led. Following this, a graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM at Chester Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 945 W. End Rd., Chester, SC 29706. This sacred time will allow family and friends to come together in farewell, honoring her enduring spirit. Through the embrace of her family, the laughter of her grandchildren, and the gentle memories held by all who knew her, Shirley Melton Roof’s love endures—an eternal light that will continue to inspire and comfort all who had the privilege to know her. Her journey may have ended, but the warmth of her presence remains deeply etched within their hearts. A special thank you to Mrs. Pearl Black for the love and care given to our "Little MaMa."
Memorials may be made to Philippi Baptist Church, 122 Steeples Rd. Johnston, SC 29832.
