Willis Wilson Crain, age 80, died May 24, 2013. He was the son of the late Monroe Crawford and Adeline Kirkpatrick Crain. Mr. Crain is survived by his wife, Geneva Porter Crain; two daughters, Lisa Crain of Charleston, SC , Carol Ann Compton and her husband, Kell Compton of Mayesville, SC, three grandchildren, Spencer Compton of Charleston, SC, Alexander Compton, and Sarah Compton, both of Mayesville, SC. He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Crawford Crain.
Mr. Crain graduated from Chester High School in 1950. He played football for Clemson and graduated in 1954. After college he joined the United States Army where he continued playing football. Willis was agency manager /agent for Farm Bureau Insurance Company until he retired. He was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Chester where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school. Willis served on the Chester County School board for over30 years and was president of the South Carolina School Board Association. He received The Order of the Palmetto from Governor Richard Riley in 1986. Willis was an active member of the Chester Little Theater for many years and starred in such productions as The King and I, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Sound of Music.
A memorial service by Reverend Clay Waldrip will be held at the First Baptist Church of Chester on May 27, 2013 at 3:00p.m. Visitation will be in the social hall, immediately following the service.
