Andy Weir

Andy Weir, age 71, passed away February 9, 2021. He was the husband of Ann G. Weir and the son of the late Leonard A. and Helen Roddey Weir, Sr. He is also survived by his daughter, Melanie McDaniel and her husband David of McConnells; and his pride and joy, Hannah Morgan McDaniel, his grand-daughter.

Andy graduated from Chester High School and York Technical College. He was a member of Capers Chapel United Methodist Church and the Chairman of the Chester County Fire Commission where he represented the South Chester Fire Department.  He began his the public service part of his life in 1967 at the Chester Fire Department where he worked for 17 years and then moved on to the State Fire Marshall Office where he became a bomb technician. Andy began his employment with SLED in early 1994 as an arson investigator and arson K-9 handler for three remarkable K-9’s, Radar, Trixie and Sid. His work at SLED took him all over South Carolina and he worked many long but rewarding hours, especially when his hard work brought someone to justice. After his retirement he worked at the Chester County Court House as a bailiff and part time at Pollard Funeral Home. Andy kept the local weather in Chester for 32 years. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter, and enjoyed being in the woods. He also loved attending local turkey shoots around the Chester area. Andy loved helping people, no matter whom, if they asked for help he would be there.

Reverend David Sealey will conduct the graveside funeral, 2:00 p.m. Friday at Uriel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the conclusion of the graveside service. The family respectfully requests that guests wear masks and observe social distancing guidelines.

In lieu of flowers it is suggested that memorials be made to the Uriel Church Cemetery 1578 Stringfellow Road, Chester, SC 29706.
