Miss Annie Mae “Nannie” Gaston, 85, died Saturday, March 5, 2022. A private graveside service will be held Monday at Catholic Presbyterian Church with Pastor Wayne Pruitt officiating.
Born September 11, 1936 in Blackstock, SC, she was a daughter of the late James C. Gaston, Sr. and the late Charity Bell Mobley Gaston. She was a graduate of Blackstock School and a member of Catholic Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by her brother, James C. Gaston, Jr. and his wife Linda Roden Gaston; nephew, Johnny Beckham; nieces, Becky Beckham Dickey (Roger), Sabrina Crouch Strickland (Michael), Linsey Gaston Whiteside (Justin); and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Gaston Crouch.
She grew up on family farmland where she raised farm animals and grew crops alongside her siblings. Having a green thumb, she could make anything grow. Her home was surrounded by beautiful flowers which she used to make the centerpiece at church each Sunday morning. Known to some as “Nannie”, she raised and cared for many children in the neighborhood. She was a great cook and loved to bake. She also loved animals, reading, sewing and crafts. You would almost always see her wearing something she handmade.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial be made in her memory to the Catholic Presbyterian Memorial Association, P.O. Box 1445, Chester, SC 29706
