Ft. Lawn
Charles Rudolph Black, 93, went to be with his Eternal Father in Heaven on Saturday September 30, 2023. He was the widower of Dorothy Elizabeth Gilmer Black. He was born in Winnsboro to the late Herbert L. Black and Marion Geddings Black. He is survived by two daughters, “Terry” Teresa Harich and Glenda Black; one son, Charles Randolph “Randy” Black all of Ft. Lawn; grandchildren, James “Sonny” Day, Sheila Doster, Rebecca Williams; ten great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Lisa Lee, Charles Robert Day; one great-grandchild, Cory Lee; one sister, Elizabeth McBrayer; and one cousin reared as a sister, Mildred Byars.
Mr. Black was retired from Duke Power (now Duke Energy) and he served in the Army National Guard (Chester). He was a member of Ft. Lawn Church of God where he was known as the man to see when something needed repairing and singing an occasional special song on Sunday. He was known in the community as one that was a person of action like making emergency repairs for people and building handicapped ramps. He was once named the “Retiree of the Year for Duke Energy”.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials made in Mr. Blacks memory to the Ft. Lawn Church of God, P.O. Box 15, Ft. Lawn, SC 29714.
Visitation will be Tuesday 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Ft. Lawn Church of God. The Reverends Jerry Barrineau and James Chappell will officiate the funeral beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Ft. Lawn.
