Edison Wylie Darby “ED”, 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully at home on September 12, 2023. Edison was a life-long resident of Chester, SC. He was the widower of Geraldine F. Darby (Aug. 18, 2023) to whom he was married 63 years. He longed to be with his wife and after a brief time they are together once again. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Zeddie W. and Mary Bell Allen Darby; two brothers, James Darby and Claude Darby; two grandsons, Quinn Horne and Andrew Eidson.
His surviving family includes two daughters, Angela Kee of Chester and Sonja Eidson (Bubba) of Warrenville, SC; one son Eddie Darby (Wanda) of Chester; grandchildren; Glen Davis, Denise Mathis (John), Melissa Sharrai (David), Beth Edwards, Eddie Darby, Jr. (Brittany), Danielle Rawls (Al), Kyle Horne, Travis Eidson, Adam Horne, Justin Eidson, and Brittnee Eidson; twenty three great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Davis (Larry) of Chester and Vivian Huntington of Blackstock; an aunt who is like a sister, Betty Outzs; one sister-in-law, Frances Darby; two brothers, Zeddie Darby (Susan) and Wallace Darby (Bessie) both of Chester.
He was a member of Chester First Freewill Baptist Church for many years. Edison worked at Springs Industries for nineteen years. He later worked for himself doing residential and commercial remodeling & repairs. He also worked for SCDOT on the interstate road crew, then the Carpentry Crew for a total of nineteen years where he retired from.
He loved telling stories of the past to his children and anyone who would listen. Spending time with his family was the most treasured thing to do.
The memorial service for Mr. Darby is 11:45 a.m. Saturday, September 16th at The Community Church, 186 Saluda Street in Chester. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to The Community Church, PO Box 464, Chester, SC 29706.
