Geneva Porter Crain, 88, passed away Thursday. She was the widow of Willis Crain. She was born in Williston, SC to the late Hiller “Hilly” W. and Dixie Boylston Porter. Mrs. Crain is survived by two daughters, Lisa Crain of Charleston, SC and Carol Ann Compton (Kell) of Mayesville, SC; two sisters-in-law Barbara and Ann Porter; three grandchildren, Spencer Wetmore (Burns) of Folly Beach, SC, Alexander Compton of Sumter, SC, Sara Lee (Justin) of Maysville, SC; two great-grandchildren, Lola Kate Wetmore, Piper Compton, numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Crain was a member of Chester First Baptist Church, and Chester Little Theater. She began her teaching career in Bennettsville, SC and later taught in the US military schools in Paris France. She returned to SC to marry her beloved Willis and continued her career with Chester County Schools where she was a teacher and media specialist for the next 30 years. She loved all forms of art, sharing her love of reading books with children. She also loved traveling and making her family her priority.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, one sister, and infant son, Thomas.
The family suggests memorials be made in Mrs. Crain’s memory to the charity of your choice. The burial will be private in Evergreen Cemetery along-side her husband.
