“Sammy” Samuel Judson Hunter, Sr., age 87, died July 28, 2021. Sammy was the widower of Lillie Jourdan Hunter and is survived by two sons, Judd Hunter (Terri) and Mark Hunter (Ellen) of Chester; one brother, James Hunter (Mary) of Columbia; three sisters, Pris Wright of Greenwood, Pat Killian of Columbia, Shelby Jourdan (Frank) of Chester; two grand-children, Mary Elizabeth Hunter Suber (Will) and John David Hunter (Caroline) both of Chester; one great-grand-child, Layla Suber; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, William Hunter and his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Willie T. and Jessie Mae Adams Hunter.
Mr. Hunter was a kind and gentle man known by so many people in Chester. He was a member and elder of Uriel Presbyterian Church; retired proprietor of Hunter’s Seafood and he enjoyed farming his Beefmaster cattle. Mr. Hunter was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Reverend Keith Hinson will conduct the graveside for Mr. Hunter beginning at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Evergreen Cemetery in Chester. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy.
